I am researching a Ming Dynasty Admiral, Zheng He. He was born Ma He, and only given the surname Zheng later in life by the Emperor. He was also given the religious name Sanbao.

I just want to know what he would be called by his inferiors, and by the Emperor etc, and in what circumstances would someone call him by his religious name (what is this name all about?)
