Chongqing is located in the southern part of Sichuan Basin, where the Changjiang and Jialing
rivers meet. It is one of the four municipal cities together with
Beijing,
Shanghai and
Tianjin, and is under
the direct jurisdiction of the Central Government.
It is the largest industrial and commercial city in southwestern China and the economic center of
of the upper stream of the Chiangjiang River. Chongqing city is called Yu for short, and it
was established some 3,000 years ago. It is also know as a city of mountains, rivers, and
fog.
Chongqing is most attractive at night, with many interesting urban and rural areas.
Traveling eastward along the Changjiang River, one can enjoy the magnificent Three Gorges.
The International Travel Festival is held in Chongqing every year from May to June.

Chongqing is known as a city of mountains. As night falls, people can get a panoramic view
of the entire city (see below) in Pipashan Park or Eling Park.
Dazu Grottoes
Located 168 kilometers from downtown Chongqing city, the Dazu Grottoes is another outstanding example
of the later Chinese grotto art. There are more than 100 cliff carvings containing some 60,000 sculptures.
Jinyun Mountain
The Jinyun Mountain lies 55 kilometers from downtown Chongqing city. It is also known as the
lesser Mount Emei, and is a state-level scenic spot
The Three Gorges
The 193 kilometer long Three Gorges on the Changjiang River stretches from Baidcheng of Fengjie
County in the west Nanjingguan of Yichang City in the east. It is consist of Qutang, Wuxi,
and Xiling gorges. Chongqing is the best starting place for the trip along the Three Gorges.
There are more than 50 luxury boats shuttling between Chongqing, Yichang, and Wuhan.
Other Attractions
Other attractions in Chongqing cith include the Four-Sided Mountain, the Wansheng Stone Forest, and the North Hot-Spring Park.
