Mount Maiji (Wheat Pile) The Mount Maiji is located in south east of Tianshui city in Gangsu province. From far, it looks like a pile of wheat in a field. Maiji means wheat pile, and this is how the mountain got its name. The scenery is beautiful, earning it the nickname of "the best of Qin". The caverns of Mount Maiji were first constructed during late Qin (384 - 417). Majority of the construction was built in BeiWei Dynasty, and is known as one of the four most famous caverns in China. There are 194 caves, with more than 7200 statues of Buddhas, and Mount Maiji is also known as the museum of statues. Some of the caves are on top of each other and look like beehives.
