Xian Forest of Steles Copyright Yutopian 2000 Xian Forest of Steles The Xian Forest of Steles and its museum is located within the city of Xian. Divided into three sections (history, tombs, and rock inscriptions) the site is the source of a large quantity of historical treasures. Most of the artifacts were from the time of Qin and Han, still preserving their original appearances. The Nestorian Monument is also among the steles. The inscriptions on the tombs are superb quality, representing the calligraphy style of the time. The Forest of Steles was built during the Song Dynasty (in 1090 A.D.), containing approximately 23000 tombs which spans from Han to Qing Dynasties, occupying 2900 square miles. It is a must see for lovers of calligraphy and historians alike. Back to travel Page.
