Christian Rock, The Conerstone Webpage

It is very clear that God refers to Himself as the Rock in the Bible. He introduced Himself to the Israelites as their Rock. Like metal, a rock is hard, heavy, durable and unchanging, signifying that God is their security, stability, strength, fortress and refuge.

Deuteronomy 32:1- Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
2 Samuel 23:1 - Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said, The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue. The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

Likewise, God is the Rock of Christians

God is Christian's fortress and our deliverer. He set Christians free from our bondage of sin.
2 Sam 22:2- Yahweh is my rock and my fortress, and my deliverer
Psalms 18:2- Yahweh is my rock and my fortress, and my deliverer. My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge
Ps 31:3 - For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.
Psalms 71:3- Be to me a rock of refuge to which I may continually come; You have given commandment to save me. For You are my rock and my fortress.

God is the refuge of Christians
Psalms 94:22- But the Lord has been my defense, And my God the rock of my refuge.
Song 2:14- O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, In the secret places of the cliff, Let me see your face, Let me hear your voice; For your voice is sweet, And your face is lovely
Jeremiah 48:28- You who dwell in Moab, Leave the cities and dwell in the rock, And be like the dove which makes her nest In the sides of the cave's mouth

God is Christian's salvation
1 Samuel 2:1-2 - And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation. There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.
2 Sam 22:47- And exalted be God, the rock of my salvation
Ps 18:46 - The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.
Ps 62:2,7 - He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved… In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
Psalms 78:35 - And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.
Psalms 89:26- He will cry to Me, "You are my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation" Ps 95:1 - O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
Isaiah 17:10- Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation, And have not been mindful of the Rock of your stronghold, Therefore you will plant pleasant plants And set out foreign seedlings

God is good, in fact He is the best.
Psalms 61:2- From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I

God is the Father of Christians
Deuteronomy 32:18- Of the Rock who begot you, you are unmindful, And have forgotten the God who fathered you.
God is just and righteous
Deuteronomy 32:4- He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice. Ps 92:15 - To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him

God gives Christians protection
Deuteronomy 32:30, 31- How could one chase a thousand, And two put ten thousand to flight, Unless their Rock had sold them, And the Lord had surrendered them? For their rock is not like our Rock, Even our enemies themselves being judges

Who is like our Christian God?
2 Sam 22:32- For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God?

From the above, we see that:

to a Christian, Rock our God is the salvation

to a Christian, Rock our God is unique
to a Christian, Rock our God is everlasting

Jesus as the Cornerstone
Since God is the Rock and Jesus is God. It is clear that Jesus is Rock too. Indeed, the Bible does teach that Jesus is the Rock. First of all, Paul tells us that the rock smitten in the wilderness (Ex 17:6; Nu 20:11) was Christ, who is the source of living water for spiritual refreshment (1 Cor 10:4). From Him flows the living water (John 7:37-39) which is the Holy Spirit. Likewise, Christians who accept Christ will have the Holy Spirit indwelling in them (John 14:16). Peter says that for those who accept Christ, He is the living stone, a chosen and precious cornerstone, giving Christians the title of royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a people belonging to God. For those who reject Christ (Non-Christians), He becomes a stumbling rock and causes them to fall. This was exactly what was prophesized by Prophet Isaiah, "And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offense" (Isaiah 8:14).

Another way Christ is our rock is that a rock was an appropriate place for offering a sacrifice (Judges 6:20; 13:19). Indeed, Christ died for our sin on the cross, so that those who accepts Him will not be perished, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). Christians are ever so grateful that Christ became our sacrifice, as mentioned above "God is our salvation"!
