The temple was originally called the Qing Jiao Temple, after the Nestorian faith, known to the Chinese as the Qing Jiao. In 745 A.D., the temple officially changed it's name to Da Qin Temple, per the request of Christian missionaries in China. (the Roman Empire was known to the Chinese as Da Qin).
