Luigi Buglio (1606-1682) Born in Italy in 1606, Buglio became a Christian at the young age of sixteen. He came to China in 1637 and studied Chinese in Beijing. Buglio preached in Jiangnan in 1639 and traveled to Sichuan in 1640. He was the first missionary in Sichuan. In 1644, Buglio was house-arrested by Zhang Xiangzhong, and forced to build astronomical instruments and terrestrial globes. The Manchurian soldiers captured Buglio when conquering China, and he returned to Beijing under the guidance of Hao Ge (Xiao Wang) in 1648. Buglio continued to preach in Beijing and built the East Beijing Church in 1655. He died in Beijing in 1682. He left behind the following works, Theology Encyclopedia, Missa, Doctrine of Catholicism, and Astronomy.
