Julio Aleni (1582-1649) Aleni was born in Italy and came to China during the end of Ming Dynasty. In 1600, he joined the Christian Association. Arriving in Macao in 1610, Aleni moved to Guang Zhou the following year, but was soon deported back to Macao. After preaching in Jiangsu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Zhejiang in 1613, Aleni went to Kaifeng of Henan to seek the Jewish scripture. He preached in Shanghai with the company of Xu Guangqi. Aleni was invited to Fu Zhou in 1625 and was the first missionary in the province of Min, with the nickname Western Confucius. Aleni was known to influence many Buddhist monks to become Christian in the temple of Wuyi Mountain. In 1641, Aleni became the president of the Christian Association.
