Adam (8th Century) Adam was a Nestorian monk who came to China from Persia, during the 8th century (Tang Dynasty). Some think that he might be a Syrian who lived in Persia. Adam was known to the Chinese as the 'Persian Monk'. He was a Father, a Bishop and an elder. In the second year of Tang Jian Zhong's reign (781 A.D.), the Nestorian Monument was established. Unfortunately, Adam had an close relationship with the Buddhist community and participated in the translation of Buddhist Scripture into Chinese.
