Luo Wenzao (1616-1691) Luo was the first Chinese Father and Bishop in Chinese history. Born in Fuan of Fujian province, Luo was baptized by an Italian mission in 1633. He was sent on missionary trips to Macao and Manila, and received his training at the St. Thomas University. In 1647, Luo returned to China to raise money for his missionary and joined the Dominican Order (the Philippines) in 1650. In 1654, he became Father of his church and returned to China to preach in Fujian. In 1673, Pope Clement X appointed Luo to be the Bishop in China.
