The forefather of the Zhou family was Hou Ji Ben of Wu Gong, Shanxi. At the end of
Xia Dynasty,
Gong Liu migrated to Bin. Following the Zhou Dynasty,
continued attacks by the surrounding
countries, brought hardship to the Zhous who were farmers. Gu Gong led his people and migrated to
Zhou land where they built a palace surrounding by fortification. This was the beginning of the
Zhou tribe. Gu Gongs great grand son Wu Wang established the Zhou kingdom. The kingdom lasted
for about 800 years, before it was eliminated by Qin in 256 B.C.,
and the people began to bear the
last name of Zhou ever since.
