So called dances were postures of Wushu (Kung Fu), acrobatic acts, sports, praying and sacrificing. These body postures are quite different than the modern dances that we are familiar with today. Paintings of body postures were found in Yin Shan cliff of Mongolia, and Can Yuan cliff of Yunnan. From the paintings of Taian Ganshu and Qinghai Datong, one can approximate the dates of these dances. According to these painting, the dances can be divided into four styles. 1) Hunting and farming dances, recording praying and sacrificing activities. Most of the paintings of the Yin Shan cliff belong to this style. According to the legend, the dance of wind (feng lai) and the song of net (wang luo) were used to commemorate Emperor Fu Xi for inventing nets for catching birds and animals. The dance of plow and the song of harvest were used to commemorate Emperor Shen Nong for the invention of farming.
