Please Visit Our Sponsor Gift Shop The Yellow Scarf Rebels After the Donghan Dynasty, a new chapter emerges in the history of China, with the rise of the Three Kingdoms. The Three Kingdoms became a well known household name, mainly due to the popularity of the book, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. San Guo Yan Yi or better known as the Romance of the Three Kingdoms (written by Luo Guanzhong), was a novel and was different than the history book the San Guo Zhi (written by Chen Shou). The Romance of the Three Kingdoms vividly recorded the major events of the time, stressing the deeds and characters of a few individuals. The beginning of the book is a bit boring, as the author tried to account the chaotic situation after the fall of the Donghan Dynasty. It is not easy to shed the light on these historical events in an interesting fashion. The book began with the conflicts between Dou Wu and Chen Fan against the Inner-Palace Officials (the IPO's are officials surrounding the king, in some cases eunuchs also were involved). The IPO's took control of thy power and persecuted the opponents. Cai Yong tried to impeach Zhang Rang (an IPO) and was set up by his opponents. The Zhang brothers (Zhang Jiao, Zhang Bao and Zhang Liang) started the Yellow Scarves rebellion, which soon spread across the nation like wild fire. They used witchcraft and sorcery to cure people, thus quickly gained attention. Zhang Jiao had many disciples and they preached everywhere. Within ten years, there were a few hundred thousand of followers.
